When you start a Kid Yearbook, you enter your child’s name and birthday and choose the year you want to make. The app then looks through the photos on your phone from that date range and shows you the faces it finds. You tap your child’s face, and we gather the photos of them from that year into a draft book.
Here’s how it works behind the scenes:
Face matching happens on your phone. The app looks for faces directly on your device. It doesn’t upload your camera roll to find your child, and Chatbooks doesn’t build or keep a profile of your child’s face.
You don’t need to set anything up first. It works the same for everyone, whether or not you’ve set up face recognition in your phone’s photo app.
You choose the face, and you review the photos. Before your book is created, you’ll see a “Review [Name]’s photos” screen where you can remove any photos that don’t belong. You can also clear the face filter in the photo picker to see all your photos from that date range.
Only the photos you add to your book are sent to Chatbooks. Those are stored and handled like any other photo you upload, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Good to know: face matching isn’t perfect, especially with very young kids or when your child appears more than once in the face list. If you see a photo of someone else, just remove it on the review screen.
